William L. Shirer (1904-1993). American journalist, novelist and historian, was a veteran foreign correspondent for the Chicago Tribune from 1925 to 1932, covering Europe, the Near East and India. Shirer lived and worked in Germany during the era of the Third Reich from 1934 to 1940. He won great celebrity for his 1960 book, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany, winner of the National Book Award in the non-fiction category in 1961, he was part of the elite team of CBS reporters, recruited by Edward R. Murrow.
Pulitzer Prize Winning Author, William Shirer, has typed a letter to (Travis Moore, Atlanta, GA bookstore owner), on his personal letterhead, dated Dec. 13, 1955 stating that…I should be very glad to autograph a copy of the “Scandinavian” book (THE CHALLENGE OF SCANDINAVIA) JANURARY, 1956).
