Hermann Kahn (1867-1934), Investment banker, Collector, philanthropist & patron of the ARTS. Originally a German banker, born in Germany, he became a British subject in 1893 and a US citizen in 1917. An investment banker, Kahn managed railroad and other interests for the firm of Kuhn, Loeb & Co. As a generous patron of the arts, he served as Chairman of the Board of the Metropolitan Opera was a trustee of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and of Rutgers College. He was a director in numerous corporations, including the Equitable Trust Co. of New York and the Union Pacific Railroad.
On March 29, 1934, failing in health, Kahn suffered a massive heart attack and died, aged 67. He was buried near his Long Island Estate in St. John’s Memorial Cemetery.
Otto H. Kahn signed in black fountain pen, a mimeographed copy of a typed letter to Charles Ferguson, The National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park, NY, NY. The letter on embossed letterhead, OTTO H. KAHN,52 WILLIAM STREET, NEW YORK is dated March 31, 1931. In the letter Otto Kahn regrets not being able to give Mr. Ferguson an interview and wishes him……success in the realization of your plan…….
The letter is in EXCELLENT condition, having been folded 86 years ago and laid flat for over 20 years that I have owned it!
